Trainings and workshops

The first session of the ODINAFRICA-IV Project Steering Committee agreed with the mechanisms for training that had been proposed in the project document, in particular:

New partner institutions will require a full cycle of training (basic, intermediate, advanced) customized to their desired level of expertise.  This type of training is part of the Standard Curriculum provided by the OceanTeacher Academy is used (courses organized at the IOC Project Office for IODE). The course prospectus and schedule is available at: http://www.oceanteacher.org/course_prospectus.html;

Established institutions that need refresher training: based upon the weaknesses identified either by the partner institution and/or by the assessment customized training will be required. This training can be organized through an internship in one of the “Centres of Excellence” that will be designated as OceanTeacher Academy regional nodes;

Continuous Professional Development Training: the rapidly developing technology requires regular training and re-training for all partners. Need for such training can be identified by the partner institutions but can also be highlighted by IODE. Such specialized training will be provided by the OceanTeacher Academy. This can be done at the Oostende Campus or it could be done in one of the “Centres of Excellence”.

However the ODINAFRICA-IV Steering Committee also noted that it will be important to organise workshops focussed on the products planned in this phase. In this regard the following workshops/courses were proposed:

(i) Marine and Coastal Atlas Development workshop - 2010.

(ii) Portals and Advanced websites workshop - 2011

(iii) Products development workshop (covering forecasts, predictions and scenarios) - 2011

The schedules and contents for these workshops will be circulated shortly.
